At St. Martin's Coffee, we proudly sourced our PNG beans from Jerry Kapka and his company Kongo Coffee, via our valued importer D R Wakefield. This collaboration allows us to support Kongo Coffee's mission to uplift their local community through charitable investment whilst maintaining a steadfast commitment to exceptional coffee quality.
We visited Papua New Guinea with Jack of D R Wakefield in March 2024. His field report, linked here, provides a brilliant summary of Kongo Coffee's work and the profound impact they had on us. It was a true privilege to Meet Jerry, the Kongo team and in general, the people of Papua New Guinea. The trip will live long in our memory for sure...

When we traveled to Papua New Guinea and met Jerry Kapka—the tribal leader and founder of Kongo Coffee, who sources and processes this smallholder coffee for export—I asked him; What’s the story behind your company’s name? He explained that Simbu Province, where Kongo Coffee is based, is renowned for its limestone. In the national Pidgin language, “Kongo” means “stone.” Back in 1999, when Jerry was registering his business and needed a name on the spot, he chose “Kongo” to reflect his roots and the land he and his coffee comes from.
